USSD 200: Solid Access Benchmark Reports

Solid Access has come up with a new initiative for the year 2007 and will publish USSD 200’s relevant performance test results of runs performed both in house and by independent third parties. These results will be presented as is, without editorializing on our part.

Initiative goals:

  • Showcase Solid Access’ engineering and firmware strength in a transparent way.
  • Educate potential users of Solid Access’ new-breed SSD products.
  • Get feedback from potential SSD users.
  • Motivate component vendors to tune up their products with ultra-fast storage

devices in mind

We also hope to help dispel some myths, for example:

  • "Why buy a speedster like USSD 200 when my Microsoft OS drivers won't be able to keep up?”
  • ”How can a firmware-driven open architecture SSD appliance like USSD deliver sub 20 microsecond access time when just negotiating with Fibre Channel could introduce a 200 microsecond latency?”

At Solid Access, we go by what we can measure. We clocked up to 50,906 IOPS, 719 MBps on just a single FC (4Gbps) port. That represents an access time of 20 microseconds. The test run was performed on a host system running Windows Server 2003 and MS OS drivers. We have consistently obtained impressive results with the Microsoft Windows platform.

We chose LSI Logic adapters to get the most out of our USSD device. LSI gave us the ultra-fast HBA performance and reliability we needed. This allowed Solid Access to achieve a lead position in SAS interfacing of solid state disk appliances.

Our relationship with LSI has allowed us to support the Serial Attached SCSI since April 2005 -- more then a year’s head start, an eternity in IT. We had plenty of time to streamline our firmware to perfection. Now we have SAS connectivity in a robust and mature state, ready for the anticipated growth in mainstream adoption.

Note: We clocked an all time high rate of 71,500 IOPS (750 MBps) on a single SAS port in wide configuration. This represents an access time of 15 microseconds.

Future USSD 200 Benchmark Reports will continue to document the cutting edge performance of the Solid Access USSD acceleration appliance and demonstrate what USSD 200 has to offer. If you have an I/O demanding application, consider joining the ranks of those who have deployed USSD and experience an acceleration in the range of 100%-1000%.
